Getting home late
- Tram — The Light RailLink runs north–south from BWI airport through Camden Yards and downtown to Penn Station and the northern suburbs.
- Metro — The Metro SubwayLink runs from the northwest suburbs through Lexington Market and downtown to Johns Hopkins Hospital; it is less useful for most visitors.
- Bus — MTA buses cover the whole city, including frequent routes up Charles Street to Mount Vernon, Charles Village and the BMA.
- Walking — The promenade around the harbour connects Federal Hill, the Inner Harbor, Harbor East, Fells Point and Canton on foot.
- Ride-hailing — Uber and Lyft are widely used and the easiest option for Hampden, the BMA and late nights.
Late-night bites
- Pit beef — Roadside stands along Pulaski Highway east of the city, and at Camden Yards on game days.
- Lake trout — Carry-out shops in West and East Baltimore; ask for it with hot sauce and onions.
- Coddies — Old-school delis and taverns, and occasional specials at Lexington Market.
Staying safe at night
Visitor areas such as the Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Mount Vernon are generally fine with normal precautions, but conditions can change from block to block, so stick to busy streets after dark and use rideshares for longer trips at night. Car break-ins happen; leave nothing visible in parked cars.
- Emergency number
- 911 (police, fire, ambulance)
