Day by day

  1. Day 1: Victoria Falls rainforest (Zimbabwe side) and Victoria Falls Bridge

Victoria Falls rainforest (Zimbabwe side), Victoria Falls Bridge, Victoria Falls Hotel and Stanley's Terrace and Zambezi sunset cruise, then Lunar rainbow visits in the evening.

    1. Morning

      Victoria Falls rainforest (Zimbabwe side)

The Zimbabwean side faces most of the falls' length, giving the fullest views in every season.

    2. Late morning

      Victoria Falls Bridge

It is the platform for a bungee jump, a gorge swing and a zipline, and a guided bridge tour explains its construction from the walkways beneath the deck.

    3. Lunch

      Lunch: Sadza with relish

Local restaurants in town and in Chinotimba, and at The Boma and lodge buffets.

    4. Afternoon

Victoria Falls Hotel and Stanley's Terrace

Non-guests can visit for afternoon tea or a drink on Stanley's Terrace.

    5. Late afternoon

      Zambezi sunset cruise

Boats sail the calm upper Zambezi above the falls in the late afternoon, passing islands where hippos, crocodiles, elephants and many birds are often seen, with drinks and snacks on board as the sun sets over the river.

    6. Evening

      Lunar rainbow visits

The effect is strongest from about April to July, when the river is high and the skies are clear.

  2. Day 2: Helicopter 'Flight of Angels' and Elephant's Walk and the craft market

Helicopter 'Flight of Angels', Elephant's Walk and the craft market, White-water rafting in the Batoka Gorge and Devil's Pool and Livingstone Island, then The Boma dinner and drum show in the evening.

    1. Morning

      Helicopter 'Flight of Angels'

Longer flights continue over the gorges and Zambezi National Park.

    2. Late morning

Elephant's Walk and the craft market

Elephant's Walk is a shopping village of galleries and craft shops selling Zimbabwean stone sculpture, textiles and jewellery, while the open craft market nearby has stalls of wood carvings, baskets and soapstone pieces sold by the makers.

    3. Lunch

      Lunch: Kapenta

Local eateries in town; dried kapenta is sold at markets.

    4. Afternoon

White-water rafting in the Batoka Gorge

The full day runs at low water, roughly from August to December; at the highest water, from about March to June, trips are shortened or suspended.

    5. Late afternoon

      Devil's Pool and Livingstone Island

At low water, roughly from August to January, guides take swimmers into Devil's Pool, a rock pool right on the edge of the drop.

    6. Evening

The Boma dinner and drum show

Book for your first or second night; it is a lively introduction to local food and music.

Before you go

  • White-water rafting in the Batoka Gorge: Book a day or two ahead in the low-water season, and confirm which sections are running with the operator.
  • Devil's Pool and Livingstone Island: Group sizes are small; book well ahead for August to December.
  • The Boma dinner and drum show: Reservations are needed, especially in peak season.

Pace and daylight

The sights in this plan add up to roughly 20–30 hours of visiting over 2 days, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 11.1 hours in June to 13.2 hours in December.

Getting between stops: Walking. Walking works between the town centre, the rainforest and the bridge in daylight along the main roads.
