What to drink
- Mote con huesillo — A sweet summer drink of dried peaches rehydrated in caramelised juice, served over husked wheat (mote) and eaten with a spoon.
- Pisco sour — Chilean pisco sours are made with pisco, lemon juice and sugar, usually without the egg-white foam common in Peru. Chilean pisco comes mainly from the Elqui and Limarí valleys in the north.
- Terremoto — An 'earthquake' of sweet white pipeño wine with pineapple ice cream and grenadine or fernet. It is strong and popular around the September holidays.

Getting home late
- Metro — Buy a rechargeable Bip! card at any station ticket office; it also works on city buses.
- Bus — The red and white city buses (Red Movilidad) cover routes the Metro does not reach and accept only the Bip!
- Walking — Plaza de Armas, La Moneda, Lastarria, Parque Forestal and Bellavista are all within about 20 minutes' walk of one another.
- Ride-hailing — Ride-hailing apps are widely used and convenient at night, especially from Bellavista and Lastarria back to Providencia or Las Condes.
Late-night bites
- Empanada de pino — Bakeries and empanaderías across the city, especially on Sundays and around the September national holidays.
- Completo — Fuente de soda counters and sandwich bars in the centre and Providencia.
- Sopaipillas — Street carts outside Metro stations and markets, especially in winter.
Staying safe at night
Pickpocketing and phone snatching are the main risks, especially around the Plaza de Armas, Paseo Ahumada, the Mercado Central and Bellavista at night. Chile is earthquake country: note your hotel's emergency instructions, and expect smog on still winter days.
