What to drink
- Craft beer — Portland has dozens of breweries and is a centre of American craft brewing, helped by hops grown in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Hazy IPAs, lagers and sours sit alongside classic Northwest IPAs.
- Willamette Valley Pinot Noir — Oregon's Willamette Valley, south of Portland, is renowned for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and most city wine lists feature them.
- Coffee from local roasters — Portland has a strong third-wave coffee culture, with roasters serving pour-overs and single-origin espresso; Stumptown started here in 1999.

Getting home late
- Tram — Tap a Hop card, phone or contactless bank card on the readers; fares cap daily and monthly.
- Bus — Frequent TriMet buses run along the main east-side streets, including Hawthorne, Belmont, Division and Alberta.
- Walking — Short blocks make downtown and the Pearl easy on foot; the Eastbank Esplanade and Tilikum Crossing link the riverbanks for pedestrians.
Late-night bites
- Food cart meals — Cart pods in Southeast, North Portland and downtown; carts come and go, so check what is open on the day.
- Oregon hazelnuts — Farmers' markets, bakeries and specialty food shops.
Staying safe at night
Car break-ins are common, including at trailheads in the Gorge, so leave nothing visible in parked cars. Parts of downtown and Old Town have visible homelessness and drug use; stay on busier streets at night.
- Emergency number
- 911 (police, fire, ambulance)
