About Mount Yōtei
The 1,898-metre stratovolcano opposite the ski fields is nicknamed Ezo Fuji for its resemblance to Mount Fuji. In summer, several trails lead to the crater rim; the climb is steep and usually takes a full day from the Kutchan or Makkari trailheads, while in winter it is a serious backcountry objective for experienced skiers.
Tip: Start before dawn in summer and carry plenty of water; the upper slopes are exposed and the weather can turn quickly.
