Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Mutrah Souq, Al Alam Palace and Old Muscat and Mutrah Corniche, then Royal Opera House Muscat in the evening.
Morning
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Arrive soon after visiting time begins; women must cover hair, arms and legs, and men need long trousers and covered shoulders. Allow 1–1.5 hours.
Late morning
Mutrah Souq
Visit in the late afternoon or evening when it is cooler and busiest; prices are open to polite bargaining. Allow 1–2 hours.
Lunch
Lunch: Shuwa
Mostly cooked at home for Eid; some Omani restaurants serve it, often on specific days.
Afternoon
Al Alam Palace and Old Muscat
Visit with the National Museum across the plaza, then walk to the small waterfront viewpoint for the forts. Allow 1 hour.
Late afternoon
Mutrah Corniche
Walk from the fish market towards Riyam Park at sunset, when the hills turn pink and families come out. Allow 1–2 hours.
Evening
Royal Opera House Muscat
Even if you do not attend a performance, take a guided tour to see the auditorium.
Before you go
- Royal Opera House Muscat: Book performances in advance through the official site, especially in the main winter season; there is a dress code.
If it rains
- Swap in National Museum of Oman (Old Muscat): Spend time in the maritime gallery, which explains how Omani sailors traded across the Indian Ocean as far as East Africa.
- Swap in Bait Al Zubair (Old Muscat): Combine it with the National Museum and Al Alam Palace in one morning.
- Swap in Bait Al Baranda (Mutrah): A good short stop on a hot afternoon before walking the Corniche.

Pace and daylight
The sights in this plan add up to roughly 5–8 hours of visiting over one day, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 10.7 hours in December to 13.6 hours in June.
Getting between stops: Taxi. Orange-and-white taxis and app-booked taxis cover the city; agree the fare before starting if there is no meter.
