East Bank Corniche

The Corniche el-Nil runs along the East Bank past Luxor Temple, the Luxor Museum and the 1886 Winter Palace hotel, with felucca captains and cruise boats moored below. It is the most convenient base: Luxor Temple is on the doorstep, Karnak is a short taxi or carriage ride north, and public ferries cross to the West Bank from the quay opposite the temple.

Good
Walk to Luxor Temple and the ferry; Nile views; Widest choice of hotels
Watch out
Persistent touts and carriage drivers; Traffic noise on the Corniche
Nearby
Luxor Temple, Luxor Museum, Mummification Museum, Public ferry landing

Romantic day trips

  • Aswan (About 3–3.5 hours by car or train) — Aswan has the granite islands of the First Cataract, Philae Temple, Nubian villages and the starting point for trips to Abu Simbel.

For dinner

Share local specialities such as Koshari, Molokhia and Hamam mahshi. Agree prices for drinks and meals in places with no printed menu.
