Staying near the beach

Getting to the beaches

  • Bus — Buses run from Queen Square and Liverpool ONE bus stations to Anfield, Sefton Park, Woolton and other suburbs.
  • Ferry — Mersey Ferries cross from the Pier Head to Seacombe and Woodside on the Wirral, running both as commuter crossings and as river explorer cruises.

Beach-weather months

Air temperatures rarely reach classic beach weather here: the warmest month, July, averages 20°C (68°F).

Beach safety

Liverpool is generally safe for visitors, but pickpocketing and phone theft occur in busy shopping streets and crowded nightlife areas. On the beaches at Crosby and the Wirral, tides come in fast across wide sands and mud, so check tide times and never walk out to Hilbre Island without guidance. Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible and follow local flag warnings.
