Before you go
If it rains
- Swap in Owens–Thomas House and Slave Quarters (North Historic District): A Telfair combination ticket covers this house, the Telfair Academy and the Jepson Center.
- Swap in Telfair Academy and Jepson Center (North Historic District): Visit the Jepson for modern art and the children's gallery, then cross the square for the period rooms at the Academy.
- Swap in Mercer Williams House (South Historic District): Even if you skip the tour, the view of the house across Monterey Square at dusk is one of the best in town.
Where to stay for this itinerary
$$$ · Best for first-timers, nightlife, food lovers and shopping
North Historic District
City Market, Ellis Square and the shops of Broughton Street
Pace and daylight
The sights in this plan add up to roughly 6–8 hours of visiting over one day, before meals and getting between them. Daylight runs from about 10.1 hours in December to 14.2 hours in June, so in winter start early and keep museums for the afternoon.
Getting between stops: Walking. Walking is how to see Savannah: every few blocks opens onto another square, and most sights are within 25 minutes of each other.
