Provenza

Provenza, centred on Carrera 35 and Calle 10A in El Poblado, is the city's trendiest dining and bar area, with design shops, specialty coffee and restaurants on its leafy streets. It is livelier than the rest of Poblado in the evening and slightly more polished than Parque Lleras next door.

Romantic day trips

  • Guatapé and El Peñol (About 2 hours by bus) — El Peñol is a huge granite monolith with a 700-step staircase to the top, looking over the islands and inlets of the Guatapé reservoir.
  • Santa Fe de Antioquia (About 1.5 hours by bus) — The former capital of Antioquia, founded in 1541, has whitewashed colonial streets, churches and a warm climate much hotter than Medellín.
  • Jardín (About 3–3.5 hours by bus) — A colourful coffee town in the mountains of southwest Antioquia, with a cobbled main square, a neo-Gothic basilica, coffee farms and waterfalls nearby.

For dinner

Share local specialities such as Bandeja paisa and Mondongo. Restaurants in El Poblado and Provenza fill up on Friday and Saturday nights; book ahead.
