The middle of the peninsula, along Sisavangvong and Sakkaline roads, holds the Royal Palace Museum, Wat Mai, the foot of Mount Phousi and the night market. Guesthouses and boutique hotels occupy restored colonial houses, and everything — cafés, tour agencies, the alms route — is a few minutes' walk away.

Romantic day trips
- Kuang Si Falls (About 45 minutes by road) — A series of limestone cascades tumbling into turquoise pools, some open for swimming, beneath a high main fall.
- Nong Khiaw (About 3–4 hours by road) — A riverside village on the Nam Ou surrounded by dramatic limestone peaks, known for the steep hike to the Pha Daeng viewpoint, caves used as shelters during the Indochina wars and boat trips upriver to Muang Ngoi.
