Crossroads Arts District
The Crossroads, roughly between downtown and Union Station, is where old brick warehouses became galleries, studios, breweries and some of the city's most talked-about restaurants. On First Friday evenings the galleries open late and the streets fill with food trucks and street performers. Jack Stack's Freight House location and several boutique hotels are here, and the streetcar runs along its eastern edge.
- Good
- Some of the city's best dining; Walkable to Union Station and the WWI Museum; First Friday art walks
- Watch out
- Limited hotel choice; Street parking is scarce on First Fridays
- Nearby
- Union Station, National WWI Museum and Memorial, Kauffman Center
Romantic day trips
- Weston, Missouri (About 45 minutes by car) — A preserved 19th-century river town north of the airport with antique shops, a historic brewery with underground cellars and wineries in the surrounding hills.
For dinner
Share local specialities such as Burnt ends, Kansas City ribs and The Z-Man sandwich. Restaurants close earlier than in coastal cities; aim to sit down by 8:30pm away from the entertainment districts.
